Global Hybrid Simulations of Energetic Particle Effects on the n=1 Mode in Tokamaks: Internal Kink and Fishbone Instability
نویسندگان
چکیده
Global hybrid simulations of energetic particle effects on the n=1 internal kink mode have been carried out for tokamaks. For the Internationa Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) [ITER Physics Basis Editors et al, Nucl. Fusion 3 ̄ 9, 2137 (1999).], it is shown that alpha particle effects are stabilizing for the internal kink mode. However, the elongation of ITER reduces the stabilization effects significantly. Nonlinear simulations of the precessional drift fishbone instability for circular tokamak plasmas show that the mode saturates due to flattening of the particle distribution function near the resonance region. The mode frequency chirps down rapidly as the flattening region expands radially outward. Fluid nonlinearity reduces the saturation level.

Interchange and Infernal Fishbone Modes in Plasmas with Tangentially Injected Beams
New energetic particle mode instabilities of fishbone type are predicted. The considered instabilities are driven by the circulating energetic ions. They can arise in plasmas of tokamaks and spherical tori with weak magnetic shear in the wide core region and strong shear at the periphery, provided that the central safety factor is close to the ratio m/n, where m and n are the poloidal mode numb...
متن کاملDestabilization of Internal Kink Mode by Energetic Electrons on the HL-2A Tokamak
Strong burst of the internal kink mode has been observed during ECRH on the HL-2A. It has been experimentally identified that the energetic electrons, which deviate from Maxwell velocity distribution, excite the mode, which was so called electron fishbone (e-fishbone). The energy distribution of the electrons is indirectly measured by a hard X-ray detector (CdTe) with the pulse height analysis ...

Linear and nonlinear properties of moderate-toroidal-number (n) shear-Alfvén modes in tokamaks are investigated by using a hybrid MHD-particle simulation code, which solves the coupled set of MHD ~magnetohydrodynamic! equations for the electromagnetic fields and gyrocenter Vlasov equation for a population of energetic ions. The existence of unstable toroidal Alfvén eigenmodes ~TAE’s! and their ...

Interactions of charge particles with electromagnetic waves have important effects (linear and nonlinear) on the propagation of electromagnetic waves, and it can somewhat play a role in generation of the new mode waves. Besides, the particle energies can play an important role in causing instability in plasma. The values of parallel energy of the particles have been calculated so that they can ...
متن کاملElectron fishbone dynamics studies in tokamaks using the XHMGC code
The electron fishbone modes are internal kink instabilities induced by suprathermal electrons. Ion fishbones were first observed experimentally (PDX) [1], opening the path to full theoretical understanding of these phenomena [4]. Stimulated by experimental evidence of electron fishbones (DIII-D, Compass-D, FTU, ToreSupra), theoretical analysis has also been extended to the case of modes excited...
